Food that are lethal to dogs

Few people realize the danger in giving grapes or raisins to their pet dogs. According to the ASPCA Poison Control Center, as few as 7 raisins or grapes can prove toxic.

No one knows exactly why grapes, raisins and dogs are such a lethal combination. Indeed, these foods are not harmful to every dog in every situation; but for some unlucky dogs, these foods can cause acute kidney failure, which may lead to their eventual death.

In the article, Raisins and Grapes Can Be Harmful to Dogs, Dr Laurinda Morris DVM, an Danville,Ohio vet, recounts a tale of a patient who lost her male Labrador mix after eating half a canister of raisins. After Dr Laurinda struggled to treat the dog , he had to be euthanized due to acute renal failure, caused by consuming such a large quantity of raisins.

Dangerous foods for dogs, like grapes or raisins are often given innocently as treats, without their owners being aware of the risks. Whilst many dog owners these days are better informed about the potential dangers of feeding chocolate to their pets (Theobromine found in coco beans is toxic to dogs, cats and horses), many do not realize the problems that a few grapes or raisins may cause. Linda Bonney of bestanimalloves.com, states in her article,Your Pet Versus Raisins and Grapes (09/20/07), “Many people I know give their dogs grapes and raisins as treats, including our ex-handlers.”

Why Raisins and Grapes are Toxic Foods to Dogs

Grape or raisin toxicity can cause acute kidney failure. Dogs are unable to pass urine, which means their systems cannot filter the toxins from their bodies.

However, what is puzzling is that some dogs are affected, whilst others do not experience any problems. In 140 such cases handled by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, one third of the dogs developed toxic poisoning from eating grapes or raisins; of which 7 died.

Making Your Own Dog Food

Feeding your dog the best diet you can will keep him healthier. Statistics show he will live longer than he would if given the typical American dog food diet. The typical American diet for a dog is dry kibble it’s packed full of preservatives, food coloring, foods unfit for human consumption even drugs from euthanized animals. Learning what a healthy diet is will help keep your vet bills lower and your companion by your side for a longer period of time.

A raw organic diet is considered to be best. I have used Nature’s Variety and more companies are making a raw organic food available for pets. Nature’s Variety comes prepared and frozen. It can be purchased in 2 lb. single chubs, 3 lb. bags of medallions (medallion = 1 oz.), 6 lb. bags of patties (patty = 8 oz) and 12 llb. cases of chubs. A 10 # dog serving is about 3.7 oz. If you choose to feed medallions, give 3 ½. A patty would be a little less than ½ for a 10 # dog. Nature’s Variety offers lamb, duck, chicken, turkey, beef and even rabbit.

1 oz. of Nature’s Variety Raw Frozen Beef for Dogs and Cats = 65 calories. The ingredients are: Beef, Ground Beef Bone, Beef Liver, Beef Hearts, Beef Kidney, Apples, Carrots, Butternut Squash, Ground Flaxseeds, Chicken Eggs, Montmorillonite Clay, Broccoli, Lettuce, Spinach, Kelp, Salmon Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar, Parsley, Honey, Blueberries, Alfalfa Sprouts, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Persimmons, Olive Oil, Duck Eggs, Pheasant Eggs, Quail Eggs, Inulin, Rosemary Extract, Sage, Clove, Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid.

I use the above list of ingredients as a guideline when making my own dog food. If you do not know what an ingredient is, let the internet tell you, enter the word in your search bar. Example: What is Mixed Tocopherols? The answer is vitamin E and is good to include in the recipe or food you chose to purchase for your pet. To check dog food ingredients online just enter pet food direct in the search bar and take a look at the different brands’ ingredients you are considering.

Keep in mind the activity level and age of your dog. More active dogs need more calories. Older dogs need less fat and protein. Lamb would be a better choice instead of beef with a dog that needs fewer calories. A rotation diet help prevent allergies from forming to one food type. Feed tuna then chicken then beef or some other combination.

To make your own dog food a food processor is very helpful. If making large batches have freezer space available. Only store the homemade dog food in the refrigerator for 3 days or less to avoid bacteria. The advantage of making your own dog food is that it is fresher, has limited or no preservatives and results in a healthier diet for your dog.

The dog food should be about 40 % meat, 30 % vegetables and 30 % starch to ensure a well balanced diet. The recipe below is for 1 lb mixture. The recipe equals about 4.3 servings for a 10 # dog. Purchase a fish scale and use the hook to spoke a hole in a plastic bag and hang to measure amounts. Simply put the ingredients in the bag, hang the bag from the scale and weigh. Toss the bag.

Basic Recipe

To figure 40 % protein, take 16 oz. and divide by 10. Take 1.6 * 4 = (40%) = 6.4 oz. of protein. You can choose organ meat (liver, heart or gizzards), lamb, chicken, turkey, tuna (fish), eggs, venison (deer) or mix a couple of different meats together. Weigh 6.4 oz of protein, use the food processor to ground the meat and lightly brown it. I choose not to use pork since it is one of the meats that can be full of parasites and needs to be cooked fully.

You can choose to mix all the ingredients together and bake it like a meat loaf instead of browning. It is healthier to only brown the meat and mix in the remaining ingredients to keep more enzymes alive. The reason for cooking is to avoid bacteria like salmonella and parasites. I cook store bought meats since I do not have control over how it was handled. I trust Nature’s Variety and feed it raw as directed on the label.

To figure 30 % of vegetables (shredded), take 16 oz. and divide by 10. Take 1.6 * 3 (30%) = 4.8 oz. of vegetables. Lightly steam the vegetables. Choices can be carrots, broccoli, peas, beans, spinach, and zucchini or combination of any. Put all vegetables through the food processor to make the vegetables more digestible. Dogs can break down meats better than plants due to their digestive system.

To figure 30 % starch, take 16 oz. and divide by 10. Take 1.6 * 3 (30%) = 4.8 oz. of starch.

Choose brown rice, oatmeal, barley, oats, grains, whole grain or vegetable pasta. Brown rice is healthier than white rice since it has not been stripped of its nutrition. Cook the starch as package directs. Potatoes, eggplant and tomatoes are from the night shade family and can cause health issues over time for your canine.

Other ingredients to mix in with the recipe are: ¼ cup – Cottage cheese, shredded cheese or peanut butter. Include ¼ cup of fruit, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, cranberries, bananas or combination. Use 1 teaspoon of brewer yeast or wheat germ, 1 clove garlic minced (use food processor) or ¼ teaspoon garlic powder. Choose1 tablespoon of one of the following oils: cod liver, flaxseed oil, safflower oil, or olive oil. Add 1 teaspoon oregano. Bone meal adds calcium, read the label to add the correct amount. Add in 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 teaspoon honey. Milk thistle can be purchased in capsules, open a capsule and mix into recipe. Add water if necessary (can substitute chicken or beef broth).

Put all ingredients into a large bowl and mix. Make mixture into patties or balls equal to one serving for your pet. I like to offer it twice a day so I make ½ servings. A 10 # dog would get about 4 servings from a 1 # mixture show above. I feed twice a day so I would make 8 ½ patties for a 10 # dog.

Let the dog food cool and serve dog food at room temperature. You do not want to burn your pet’s tongue or throat. Freeze what is left if you will not be feeding it within 3 days otherwise store in refrigerator. If you have frozen it let it thaw in the refrigerator over night.

There are foods to avoid. Do not use soy products they cause health issues for canines. Chocolate can cause canine heart arrhythmias (irregular beat) and tachycardia (heart beating too fast). Raisins/grapes can cause acute kidney failure in dogs. The following ingredients are dangerous to your pooch: nutmeg, caffeine (coffee, tea), raw eggs, onions, macadamia nuts, fruit pits, yeast dough, mushrooms, or other moldy foods.

Corn is difficult to digest. If you use corn you should notice that your pet’s stools are larger and that means the corn wasn’t adsorbed (digested). If purchasing a dog food and corn is listed on the ingredients label as one of the first three ingredients I chose a different brand. I use the same rule with soy.

When switching from dry kibble or canned food to a homemade diet, it is important to do it slowly. Start by mixing it in with your dog’s current food. It is best to feed 2 to 4 times per day. This keeps your dog’s blood sugar level and prevents bloating. Dogs with certain health issues (thyroid) may not require as much food.

I leave out dry food as snack and I want my dog to like to eat dry food. If your dog ever needs surgery and required to stay that is when it needs to eat the most. Conventional vets will not feed a raw diet to your pet. Most vet businesses do not have the freezer or time to feed the raw food. All the other dogs/cats patients want it. When it is healing this is the time when your pet needs to eat. Only a few boarding kennels will feed a different diet and it will cost more to have it done. That is why I keep dry food available for my dogs.

Love does not equal food. Do not over feed your dog or you will develop health issues you are trying to avoid.

Dangerous Dog Food and Food Tips

As a responsible dogowner you should know what foods to avoid so you can prevent poisoning and keep your dog healthy.
If you suspect your dog has ingested a toxic food, seek veterinary attention immediately.

Here is a list of Foods use should avoid feeding your dog:

  • Chocolate & anything with caffeine especially dark chocolate contains theobromine which is similar to caffeine. This is a very dangerous substance to dogs. If you know that your dog has eaten chocolate take it to the vet immediately. If your dog eats a very small amount of chocolate, usually it only causes digestive issues.

  • Onions & Garlic contain sulfoxides and disulfides which damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Onions being the most toxic of the two, however garlic should be avoided as well.

  • Grapes and Raisins have a toxin that effects dogs kidney function and causes kidney damage and can lead to kidney failure.

  • Macadamia & Other nuts contain toxins that effect the digestive system, nervous system, and muscles.

  • Mushrooms effect many areas of a dogs body. They can cause shock and even possibly death.

  • Large Quantities of Liver results in Vitamin A toxisity and effects muscles and bones of the animal.

  • Human Vitamins Containing Iron damage dogs digestive system wall lining, kidneys, and liver. Be sure to use a vitamin supplement designed for dogs.

  • Milk & Other Dairy Products have lactose and many dogs don’t have enough lactose enzymes to effectively break it down. This effects the dogs digestive system and leads to diarrhea.

  • Raw Eggs contain an enzyme known as avidin which restricts the absorption of biotin one of the many B Vitamins. This can lead to an unhealthy coat and skin problems. Also eggs can carry salmonella which is poisonous to dogs.

  • People Food should be avoided at all times. Many people foods have far to many fats, sugars, and salt. Salt causes electrolite imballances in dogs. Sugars are not a natural food and causes obesity, and large amounts of fat and protein can’t be digested correctly and causes digestion problems as well as liver disfunction.

Now you know what not to feed your dog, here are some tips what you can give your dog for food or as a treat.

Vegetabull:D

Some people believe that dog food is dog food, and buy the cheapest brand available, because, well, their dog is doing just fine.
There are others that believe the most expensive brand is better because it costs more. In my opinion, neither of these people are correct.

To find a good dogfood ask your vet for advice. Also talk to other dogowners, check the internet, make sure you are well informed. Giving your dog the right dogfood, keeps their coat shiney, can avoid medical problems and allergies, can make a difference in the amount of poo your dog produces and most important keeps your dog in good health, condition and shape.

Also make sure your dogfood is produced on a humane and animal friendly way.
There are a lot of dogfoods that are produced in a horrible way.
As a dogowner you should be well informed before choosing a food for your dog.
You don’t want to find out you have been unknowingly supporting animal cruelty by feeding your dog.

Your dogs diet should be adjusted to his health, age, condition, weight and any  allergies or intolerances. If your dog is still a puppy or a pregnant dog you should adjust their diet aswell.

A small tip: if your dog eats to quickly (which can cause puking or gasses) try to put in a tennisball in the foodbowl, this way your dog has to push it aside everytime it takes a bite so it will eat slower and digest better. Always wait a while after their diner to go on a walk or let them play.

Here is someone who cooks diner for their dogs…look like a 5star restaurant for dogs!

Note: a lot of Bulldogs are overweight, yes a bulldog is a chubby and wrinkled by nature but a lot of dogowners think it looks cute when adding an extra few pounds.
In their eyes; the bigger and rounder the Bulldog the better. This makes it hard for your dog to keep in condition, is bad for their joints and their heart and shortens their life expectancy. I think a lot of good intentioned but lazy dogowners choose a Bulldog with the thought; well I chose a Bulldog so I can enjoy the company of a dog without the effort of walking it every day. This isn’t fair to your dog, a Bulldog not enjoys walks just as much as other dogs it needs it just aswell to keep them healthy. Even if your dog has a big yard to play in you still need to daily excersize and walk your dog. Make sure your dog gets the right amount of excercize aswell as a good diet, this will not only make it a Happy Dog it will also keep it a Healthy Dog.

Dog food withdrawn from market after reports of kidney failure and death of dogs - Poisoned Pets

A dog food sold in over 1,300 Mercadona Spanish supermarkets was withdrawn from the market Friday after receiving six reports of dogs becoming gravely ill and suffering from acute renal failure after eating Compy Brand dog food, a private label brand made exclusively for Mercadona by BYNSA a leading private label pet food manufacturer in Europe.

The company ordered a “precautionary recall”, something the manufacturers of chicken jerky treats poisoning dogs in the US would be wise to follow their example. BYNSA has 39% percent of the pet food market in Spain and produces a 100,ooo tons of product a year.

The group made the move, “as a precaution”, after receiving at least six complaints from customers all involving severe kidney damage. The products are now being analysed by its technicians to see if there is a connection between the food and dogs suffering kidney failure.

Pet parents said that after eating the food they noticed, “she was drinking excessive amounts of water and peeing a lot. In addition a Turre vet has confirmed they are dealing with four dogs, all with kidney problems and my own vet is also dealing with other dogs having the same problems. The common factor is they all have the same make of dog food in their diet.”

The Mercadona spokesman Jorge Romero insisted: “At this stage we have only removed the product as a precaution. We have received various calls, six complaints, and it has been removed from shops in Albox, Garrucha and Mojacar. This is not all over Andalucia. Technicians from our suppliers are currently analysing the products in their laboratories. They are also talking to these clients and have issued a help line 900500103 for anyone worried. It will be in both English and Spanish. We will let you know as soon as we have any more news.”

For anxious pet parents in the US, this may lead to an answer as to why their dogs are having similar problems. Concerned pet parents have started awareness campaigns to warn consumers about the Mercadora dog food and have created forums to share information (in English, links below).

Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs

Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs At the time of Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs penning this post, there has been a HUGE commercial cat and dog meals harming frighten in the united states – from contaminated dog food. Around 60 Million containers and pouches of prepared commercial dog food were remembered. Some owners misplaced their dogs and cats, simply because a kind of plastic material known as melamine had found its distance to pet food! It was tracked to a Chinese language sourced whole wheat gluten contamination with melamine. Why pet food producers use wheat gluten in pet food is a secret – it is a VERY POOR source of proteins! We make our very own homemade pet food for a number of factors – one of them being the unfamiliar composition of commercial dog food! Why DOES canned or package food appear and scent so comparable, regardless of what brand you buy?I had been always suspicious, the advertisements display lovely heaps of meat or even chicken white meat fillet and veggies and so on. How COULD installed that in there, individuals slashes are so expensive?Nicely basic financial aspects states they do not! But what makes me angry is the attempts at deceptiveness! We began producing homemade pet food, a while after I obtained an Insiders take a look at what is known as a “protein recovery unitInch.I nicknamed it the Beak Manufacturing plant as this grow utilized leftovers from the poultry processor – mind (beak and all sorts of), feet, feathers and gizzards – and turned it right into a foul smelling dirty dark brown powder meant to go into dog-meals!It stank so bad which scent experienced my hair as well as on my clothes and i’m not exaggerating when I say the scent strung about me for the whole day time! This protein natural powder is often one of the primary ingredients listed on the load up or can – and passes the title meat by-items or occasionally beef meal. It’s part of the reason that commercial dried out biscuits almost always scent exactly the same! If you are sport – try eating one of those biscuits yourself – see what your pet has been putting up with! However, you see because this proteins natural powder goes through a higher heat procedure during manufacture, it’s considered to be safe for pets. But the large dumpsters of heads, carcasses, feet, down etc I SAW had been left at ambient temperature for you never know just how long – so you can imagine the putrid condition these were in?I Won’t feed this decline, which is what it really is – Rubbish – to the dogs! Simply because whilst they MAY have killed the bacteria in this rubbish, what they may not destroy are some of the harmful toxins the bacteria produce as part of their action! As well as the bacterial harmful toxins could also be toxins produced by adjusts and fungus referred to as aflatoxins and mycotoxins and a few of these are known to be heat tolerant! Now I’d rather not lose interest you with many different technical information on harmful toxins – but I do want you to see that i’m not fueling! So here is just one article – on only one germs – Staphylococcus aureus. About 1Or2 way down the page you’ll see a remark concerning the contaminant it produces and it is resistance to heat in cooking food:http://www.center for disease control.govOrncidodOrdbmd/diseaseinfoOrstaphylococcus_food_grams.htmAnd that’s just one bacteria – you will find plenty much more! Attempt Searching the words Aflatoxin, Mycotoxin or bacterial harmful toxins on your own!Plus there is potentially accrued pesticide residues within the concentrated chicken down…..AND I’m not even going to point out the stories we have read about euthanised animal carcasses from veterinarians or abbatoir creatures which were unhealthy – or street destroy! In a nutshell – it HAS ALWAYS BEEN possibly contaminated dog food! But even though you totally ignore the contamination problem – will still be a really inexpensive and unpleasant source of protein!Because it’s branded as Commercial Dog Food Not For Human Consumption – there is far less scrutiny, problem and accountability! Truth Is : they need to tag it as UNFIT – ask yourself why would that be?Why can you nourish these items to any dog that you care about? We like our canines – to avoid meals based on junk, with additional soya protein, colourings along with other chemicals – we make our very own home made pet food exclusively! And here is the one thing – Home made Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs pet food isn’t just BETTER FOR YOUR Canine it is also much cheaper than than dog food – within Sydney, we can feed an adult Staffordshire Bull Terrier for around 45c per day!Now could be once the Commercial dog food companies plus some vets comment that the meals that you simply make must be complete. It is like it’s some sort of secret as as too stupid to get it done ourselves! I consider criminal offense at their attempts to adjust us into purchasing their goods!Canines have discussed individual lives for thousands of years (well before pet food companies) – rather than became extinct due to malnutrition!

Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs

Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs

Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs Let me Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs state this – anyone who can read and may prepare – can make their very own high quality home made dog food! All it takes is a little time and planning and also, since its simpler to make in bulk – a bit of freezer space.Canine nutrition has additionally been very well researched and published now that we reside in an info age this information could be freely dispersed worldwide!Certain there are some fundamentals – when creating home made dog food it’s important to remember that canines are meat eaters (carnivorous). Since beef is almost entirely comprised of healthy proteins – proteins are consequently an extremely important component in dog diet programs! But did you know that numerous processed or dried out foods are based on grow sources of protein (frequently Soy beans – and no question they fart so much) because vegetable proteins are MUCH cheaper than pet healthy proteinsBut veggie dependent healthy proteins like those present in soy beans, chickpeas, dried beans and so on are not complete in all the amino acids present in animal proteins like beef, fish and dairy products. To overcome this lack of total proteins commercial dog food manufacturers add the the terrible sensing natural powder I pointed out earlier! In the book Home Prepared Cat and dog Diet programs, The Healthful Alternative, – when talking about packaged pet food, Jesse Stromberg experienced this to state:”The price of dog foods is decreased by utilizing no more animal protein, than is essential. Using sources of pet healthy proteins unfit for human consumption also cuts down on the cost. For example, animal meat your meals are not fit for people to drink. Some beef meal protein is from creatures that died and had been beginning to decompose.” (pg. 35)Stromberg provides a figure of 13% protein for expanding canines and 19Percent for aging dogs. I always goal that home made pet food drops into this higher proteins variety.Because dogs in the crazy are mainly meat eating, most of their nutritional protein will come from animal or insect sources – I personally use animal proteins.Nevertheless canines Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs may also and do consume fruit – foxes are recognized to consume blackberries and undoubtedly other fruit, for instance fruit from a vineyard or fresh fruit from an orchard. Our Staffords love all sorts of fresh fruit – such as banana!I also vary the protein content material of my homemade pet food, according to the requirements of my dogs. Our women (an Aussie Terrier) has become 11 years old and diabetic, so her diet is quite high in protein and incredibly low in fat. Pregnant sluts and growing puppies need significantly more protein as well as require more total meals amount. However, if using meat as your supply of protein, you are able to cause problems for the dog if the food is not balanced using the appropriate minerals. Steak alone will give great amounts of protein and metal, but very little calcium and phosphorus for instance.Dogs in the wild look on a number of foods and would eat a whole rabbit for example – hair, bones gizzards and all sorts of! When they do this they are able to draw out ALL of the mineral deposits within the bone fragments and digestive tract of the animal — so their diet program is much more balanced! When making home made pet food, it’s important to strive for this stability in between proteins, vitamins and minerals! When you use my home made dog food recipes you’ll see that certainly one of my principle protine sames is skin free poultry neck.I personally use these due to their higher Dog Food For Kidney Failure In Dogs proteins/low-fat percentage and occasional cost – In addition – the additional advantage of the minerals like calcium supplement, phosphorus and potassium and so on, available in the bone fragments!AND skinless chicken neck are often accessible at low cost as human quality clean beef within the deli departments of numerous grocery stores or poultry beef shops, which means they MUST be match for human consumption!Right here and at this time then your home made pet food is streets ahead of industrial commercial dog food, simply because you are using quality, healthy and well balanced proteins from clean, safe meals resources!Attempt making your own Home-created Pet food I guarantee that your dog will love the REAL food that you are providing – instead of the pseudo food he has been forced to accept until now!

I"M SICK OF ALL THE PET FOOD RECALLS!

This week I was alerted to two more pet food recalls.  The first one was a follow up to a warning given by the FDA that chicken jerky treats could harm or kill dogs.  After repeated warnings by the FDA, Nestle Purina refuses to recall the Waggin Train chicken jerky treats made in China.  Supposedly these treats were causing kidney failure and death in dogs because of melamine found in the treats.

Imagine my horror when I found these treats to be given to one of my pet sitting clients–yikes!

On the heels of this news that these treats were not being recalled, Diamond Foods had an additional dog food added to their list of recalled foods–Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul.  These were being recalled due to the possibility of salmonella contamination.  Just two weeks before, Diamond Foods had recalled all of their pet foods manufactured in a South Carolina plant again due to possible salmonella contamination.  Two of the brands that Diamond manufactures for are two brands that I feed my dogs–Solid Gold and Natural Balance.  What is going on?

I’m currently reading an excellent book which exposes the pet food industry as being less than honest in the manufacturing of their products.  The book is titled “Buyer Beware:  The crimes, truth and lies about pet food”.  The author, Susan Thixton, did an excellent job of researching the pet food industry.  She found that pet foods which list “chicken meal by-product”, “meat and bone meal by-product”, canola oil, dyes, etc. are truly unhealthy for our pets and are causing them to die at younger and younger ages along with getting chronic conditions such as skin allergies and cancer.  If you love your pet(s), please read this book and understand what you are really feeding your dog or cat.  I have been cooking for my dogs for about a year now, but what I cook has been used as a “topper” on their kibbles.  I’m going to redouble my efforts and try to cook more for my dogs using fresh and organic ingredients when available.  Even if meats, etc are not organic, cooking fresh meat is still better for your pet than feeding kibbles.

I’m going to include a recipe for Carrot Cookie Dog Treats that you can make and that your dog will love.  Please replace any Waggin Train treats with a wholesome treat such as this recipe!

Here’s what you need:

2 cups cooked,mashed carrots

1 cup garbanzo bean flour (or all purpose flour if your dog is grain tolerant)

1 egg (or 1 tsp flax meal mixed in 3 Tbsp water and let sit for 10 minutes)

1/4 cup real maple syrup (or substitute honey)

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ginger

1/2 tsp baking powder

Pre-heat over to 325 degrees F.  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, stir together mashed carrot, egg, maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger & baking powder.  Mix well.  Add in flour, stirring until fluffy combined.

Drop 1 tsp blobs of the mix on the baking sheet.  Bake for 35-40 minutes until the cookies are golden brown.

This recipe makes a soft homestyle cookie.  For something a little crunchier, turn off the oven and leave cookies to cool overnight.

As we humans are discovering, the foods we eat to nourish our bodies can really help us maintain homeostasis or bring on disastrous consequences such as diabetes, obesity, cancer and other chronic conditions.  The same is true for our precious pets.  If you are inclined to feel that the premium pet foods are too expensive for your budget, just remember that veterinary bills add up a lot quicker than the difference in pet food prices.  At the very least, become a pet food ingredient label reader and reject any foods that contain “chicken meal byproduct, bone & meat meal byproduct, canola oil, dyes, and any byproducts in general.  The health of your faithful 4-legged companions are relying on it!

In my next post I’ll outline some of the pet foods that I have used and would recommend.  Until then, please read those labels and understand what you are feeding your dog or cat!

Fellow Dog Owner, If You’d Cry If Your Dog Died, Then You Need To See This!

Discover The Deadly Secret The Dog Food Industry Spends Millions To Make Sure You Never Find Out!

Homemade Food For Dogs With Kidney Failure

Homemade Food For Dogs With Kidney Failure Most people do not give their cookware a second believed or more until the last few years, I did not possibly. Six years ago my wife was identified as having Parkinson ‘s disease. Parkinson’s illness is really a degenerative condition of the central nervous system that affects motor abilities, intellectual procedures, and other capabilities. PD is easily the most standard reason for persistent progressive syndrome characterized by tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia and posture lack of stability. Amongst no engine signs and symptoms are autonomic dysfunction and physical and sleep issues. Intellectual and neurobehavioral issues, such as dementia, are typical in the sophisticated phases of the disease. An analysis like that can cause a lot of things to change in your life. It cannot be cured for Parkinson’s and also the treatment is among hiding or restricting the signs and symptoms as much as possible. It is also a intensifying ailment that moves at different rates in each individual. Few issues are recognized for sure about Parkinson’s but the common feeling is the fact that some people are more genetically susceptible to get the disease than others and that the environment may be the bring about. As the saying goes, “Genetics loads the gun and the atmosphere pulls the bring about.” Feasible environmental leads to or activates tend to alter for the absorption of metals and pesticides in your body. Is that this the cause? No most likely not, but it might be factor worth considering. At this time of the sport, I’m looking for ways to sluggish the issue, not compound it. So when I heard that light weight aluminum kitchenware may leach aluminum in to the food I took notice and do a little shopping around. I discovered the very first placed and forged light weight aluminum cookware was produced in 1892 with a organization in Pittsburgh which later grew to become referred to as ALCOA. Believe it or not, it was not a big hit. Actually it was not well accepted whatsoever due to high quality concerns. I was shocked to learn that it took over half a century before light weight aluminum pans and pots really gained approval with everyone. Of course these days, the concerns raised are not about quality, they’re healthcare concerns. The primary worry is the fact that poisonous levels of light weight aluminum might be absorbed into your body when cooking with the steel, potentially leading to Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s illness.

Homemade Food For Dogs With Kidney Failure

Homemade Food For Dogs With Kidney Failure

Homemade Food For Dogs With Kidney Failure That’s a pretty powerful problem to have and my studies have shown that cookware isn’t the only exposure to light weight aluminum we have on a daily basis. Actually to become fair, it’s nearly impossible to avoid it within the atmosphere. It is the third-most plentiful aspect in our planet’s brown crust area and can be found in our atmosphere and water. It’s also found in medications, deodorants and, obviously, in light weight aluminum cookware. Scientists that measure such things inform us that the average person intakes anywhere from 3 to 50 milligrams of light weight aluminum every day. People lucky enough to also employ light weight aluminum cookware can get to consume an additional 3 to 6 mg each time they generate using the pans and pots. So exactly what do we all know about alloys and the human body? Nicely obviously the aluminum is poisonous in excessive amounts. For instance, the consumption of too much light weight aluminum may impair the kidneys, which expel the steel. Toxic levels of light weight aluminum have also been associated with anemia, reduced liver organ perform, poor coordination, calcium insufficiency and loss of memory among other health problems. Although both are ##Asin## severe nerve diseases, Alzheimer’s is a much better known illness than Parkinson’s and therefore one of the greatest concerns of our getting older population is that using light weight aluminum pans and pots may cause Alzheimer’s disease. The reality is, that scientists conducting autopsies on numerous, although not all, Alzheimer’s disease individuals found higher amounts of light weight aluminum in their minds. The reality is that there is no definitive proof that light weight aluminum is the smoking weapon or even a cause of Alzheimers or Parkinson’s and the FDA says it is secure. To top that off, it is lightweight, reduced-listed along with a excellent warmth conductor and Light weight aluminum are available in about 50 % of produced cookware these days. So why have I decided to opt out and steer clear of aluminum cookware? Listed here are my factors: 1. Aluminum is highly reactive. Cooking food citrus meals for example tomatoes or tomato marinade may cause draining. The food really absorbs the aluminum in the container or pan, and that means you is going to be ingesting light weight aluminum contaminants traced to the kitchenware. In addition to staying away from cooking food citrus foods in light weight aluminum cookware, it is also recommended to not shop them in light weight aluminum items. I even avoid using aluminum aluminum foil. 2. Do this experiment. Take a clean light weight aluminum container and put one half cup of water in the skillet and use a clear scouring (cleaning soap-less) pad to scrub the inside of the skillet. Now pour the water in to the cup and check out the deposits within the water. Attempt exactly the same experiment with stainless kitchenware and you will find no deposits. 3. I do not trust the FDA. It isn’t that they are laying in my experience on purpose, but they occasionally have no idea what they do not know. How many times have you ever heard them let you know some thing is protected only to discover it performed the market later on because they had been incorrect. At this time they don’t think including an additional 3-6 milligrams of aluminum to your physique every time you prepare is not a good idea. Truly! Additionally they don’t even think that extra time it might build up and offer a problem. But this i the one thing, they do not be sure. It isn’t individual for them but it definitely is to me. As the saying goes within the southern, InchThey don’t have a canine within this search however i do”. 4. You will find alternatives to aluminum kitchenware available so why risk. Must I risk it because it’s cheaper or some bureaucrat states, Inchthey believe it’s secure enough to use”. Must I use it till somebody proves it’s associated with a disease? No, it’s simpler, wiser and far better to buy an alternate cookware established. It might not be the entire solution, but it’s a positive thing will be able to do with the knowledge and also the details which i have.

Homemade Dog Food Diets for Renal Failure

Homemade Dog Food Diets for Renal Failure

Canine renal failure is a serious condition that happens when a dog’s kidneys lose the ability to remove waste from the blood. It most typically occurs in older dogs as their kidneys simply wear out after years of use. A dog suffering from renal failure may experience diarrhea, vomiting, depression and even appetite loss. There are many methods of treatment and management of this disease, including dietary management.

Dietary Management of Renal Failure

Any treatment of canine renal failure is focused on improving your dog’s quality of life and prolonging your dog’s life. Your veterinarian may prescribe a special diet in order to do both of those things. Your dog’s kidneys are basically filters. A special diet for your dog removes as much of the extra waste from the food as possible, therefore relieving the kidneys from the work of removing said waste. This aids in making your dog more comfortable and helps your dog feel better. As some dogs experience severe weight loss due to loss of appetite, these diets are also formulated to stimulate your dog’s appetite to encourage food intake and weight gain. You can purchase commercially prepared foods for canine renal failure, but you may prefer to prepare the diet for your dog yourself.

Important Ingredients

When preparing homemade renal failure diets for your dog, there are ingredients that are important to avoid as well as key ingredients you need to include. There is an age-old argument that protein must be restricted in a canine renal failure diet, but it is actually important for your dog to eat protein. What you want to limit is your dog’s intake of phosphorus, which weakens your dog when it accumulates in the blood. The problem is that phosphorus is a by-product of protein digestion, so you must choose a protein source with a low phosphorus level. You also need to limit sodium intake. Ingredients to include besides protein are fiber, fatty acids, B vitamins and calcium.

Sample Diets

Very lean meat can be used in small amounts to make a meal for your dog. Combine 1/4 cup cooked lean hamburger or chicken, 3 cups of cooked potato (with skin), 1 tbsp. of chicken fat, 500 mg of vitamin C, 1 tbsp. of minced parsley, 1/2 tsp. of calcium powder and a veterinarian-recommended canine multivitamin. Mix thoroughly and serve at room temperature. Eggs are a complete protein with the lowest phosphorus level, making them perfect for a renal failure diet. Combine 1 scrambled egg (or use 1 chopped hard-boiled egg), 3 cups of cooked potato with skin, 1 tbsp. of chicken fat (or a fish oil capsule), 1/2 tsp. of calcium powder, 500 mg. of vitamin C, 1 tbsp. of minced parsley and a veterinarian -recommended multivitamin. Again, mix thoroughly and serve at room temperature.
