Vet Care for Dogs and Cats

Almost every dog and cat needs dental cleaning every year to remove plaque and tartar. Gingivitis and periodontal disease is unhealthy for your pet and contributes to kidney, liver, heart and other disorders. In addition to the cleaning with have clinically tested products to help keep your pets’ teeth and gums healthy, as well as their breath fresh. Call us for a free dental check-up. We have a special fee for a professional anesthetic deep cleaning. Non-anesthetic cleaning is not advised because dental radiographs are not taken and cleaning deep pockets is not possible in awake pets. Todays techniques and monitoring make anesthesia safe for pets of any age and health issues. Please call us if you have questions and check our website for more information and videos on animal dentistry.

I am having amazing results with the NEW Metabolic weight loss program for dogs and cats. Pets love the canned and dry food as well as the treats which help keep their teeth clean and breath fresh. If your pet is on our program we weigh them every 3 weeks and make changes as necessary. Many client are unaware that their pets are overweight because they think that is the way they should look. It is not healthy for pets to be obese since it makes them prone to arthritis, diabetes, liver and kidney disease etc. Please contact us for a free weight consultation.

Great video!

I received a Health Advisory that a squirrel in the wilderness area of LA County tested positive for Plague. The potential of exposure exists throughout the county, especially in the Angeles National Forest, as well as the Santa Monica and San Gabriel mountains. Plague is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted to people and pets, from fleas. Wild rodents are the principal source of plague. If a cat develops plague, it can infect humans by coughing or sneezing. Please protect your Family when camping by avoiding contact with rodents and other wild animals. Make sure that your Pets have effective Flea control, and use insect repellants for the Family. Contact your physician immediately if you become ill within 7 days of being in a plague area. Inform your Veterinarian if a sick pet has been in a plague area. For further information check out these links:

Heartworm disease is very serious and occurs throughout the country. Adult worms in the arteries and heart are deadly because they cause heart failure and lung damage.  Infection is transmitted by mosquitoes, and remember even indoor pets are exposed to bugs entering the house! The good new is that prevention is safe, effective and affordable. There are quite a few products you can give once-a-month, either as a pill or a topical skin treatment. Some products such as Advantage Multi and Trifexis also prevent fleas and intestinal parasites. Cats and dogs over 6-7 months need a blood test prior to starting medication. Cats and dogs taking year-round prevention will need an annual Heartworm Test. The good news is that when you purchase a 12-month supply of medication the test is free. We can ship the medication directly to your home at a competitive internet price. Call us for details or find more information at our website: vetnpets.com

A major health concern with dogs and cats is obesity, in fact over 70% of pets are overweight! It has been proven that overweight pets have a shorter life-span due to problems from heart, kidney, liver, diabetes, arthritis and even cancer. We have an exciting NEW Diet Program developed by Hill’s Prescription Diets. The Diet is call “Metabolic” and it actually changes your pets’ metabolism so that calories are better utilized i.e. “Fat Burning.” Bring your pets in for an appointment and we will estimate their body fat and ideal weight and set them up on a feeding plan guaranteed to lose weight safely and effectively. And the great news is that we will monitor and adjust your pets response with FREE weight check-ups. After the appropriate weight loss we will recommend a Maintenance Program to keep those pounds from coming back! METABOLIC DIET comes in both dry and canned formulas. Remember to stick with the diets and don’t give supplements such as cheese, jerky, rawhide and table scraps. Supplements have an amazing amount of calories; even 1 slice of cheese will ruin a diet plan. However, pieces of apple, pear, carrots, celery, banana and Metabolic Biscuit Treats are great treats.

We are having a special on Dental Care which includes anesthesia, deep cleaning and fluoride treatments at a 35% discount. I recommend an annual cleaning to prevent periodontal disease which can result in damage to internal organs such as the kidney and liver, thus shortening your pets’ lifespan. After we professionally clean your cat and dogs teeth it is important to continue a home-care dental program. I recommend products which carry the VOHC seal of Acceptance. These products have been tested for safety and effectiveness. I especially like (1) Tartar Shield soft rawhide chews-made in USA; (2) Healthy Mouth water additive, and gel; (3) Greenies dental chew (4) T/D- tartar control kibbles by Hill’s Prescriptions Diets. Of course brushing your cat and dogs teeth is great but needs to be done every day in order to effectively remove plaque.
