Suckling pig came into my mind when I saw JoJo lying on the bed like thisâ¦I remembered we were dining at this Chinese restaurant at turf city when one of the dishes served was suckling pigâ¦I really find it gross because it was a small piglet sizeâ¦about the same size as JoJo! I couldnât bring myself to eat that dishâ¦I kept thinking of JoJo..and how the cruel people kill dogs for meat!!but I also eat other meatâ¦whatâs the difference?!?!?! I asked myselfâ¦â¦time to turn vegan?

So happy that I manage to close the sales gapâ¦this morning rushed to NTU to see my âgodmaâ..haha..she was busy attending to the patients and I somehow managed to âpyschoâ her to order more ..she âs really an angel sent!! LOL
I can finally relax now â¦â¦
By the way the dog cage which I had posted earlier has been given away to a volunteer from mdm Wong shelter. In fact I passed her the 2 dog cages I have. Both belonged to YaYa (JRT) & BiBi (Shihtzu) which I rehomed. The cage belonging to YaYa is really very new..mentioning about YaYa (now known as Petal)..I wonder how is she nowâ¦hope sheâs happy..I really wonder why the previous owner could buy her from petshop..and gave her away so soon when she was only 4 mths old !One should really consider properly before buying a pet.Pet is for life and not a toy that you can dump it anytime.
Â
Itâs the time of the month again, chasing sales target â¦running several clinics and medical centres till I really wanna peng san !
Just recovered from bad cold last week..I got 4 days MC! These days with H1N1 spreading around, one can easily obtain minimum 2 days MC if you are unwell especially with cough or flu.The stupid cold made me very lazy to update my blog for past daysâ¦.*sneeze*
Cannot believe I ran more than 10 clinics today from Shenton Way, Raffles place, Thomson Medical centre & Balestier area. But I still short of that little bit of sales to close the gapâ¦it seems so near yet seems so far to me.But no matter what, die die must hit this month!!Ganbadei!
This afternoon I dropped by ARC Balestier to buy Life Extension Dog Life for JoJo.This is one brand that I trust and like, Life Extension also have wide range of human pharmaceutical grade supplements run by clinical research organization.Itâs not available in retail stores and pharmacies.I donât really trust those off-the-shelves pet supplements in pet stores as I doubt the quality and the strength of the contents are really what they state on label.Alot manufacturers uses poor quality (non-human grade) ingredients for pet products..or what we know as âBy-productsââ¦so one can imagine what they really use for pet supplements as well.So I highly recommend this brand lah!
For Life extension supplements for humans, you may want to buy from A Company for women at camden medical centre. The doctors there carry quite a wide range of Life extension supplement. If you want to buy for your furrykids, Iâm not very sure if other vets do sell but you can buy from Animal Recovery Centre. They sell about $ 50 per bottle which can last for 1-2 months.
Life Extension Dog Mix is convenient as it contains alot of ingredients & minerals that are essential for a dogâs well being.I like it because it also has probiotics..haha..yea Iâm great supporter for probiotics coz it helps in our furkidsâ gastrointestinal health, maintaining healthy microflora which also helps in their immune system. It also has flaxseed powder which helps in their skin & fur, Lutein which is for eye health and alot moreâ¦.good & convenient if you are unsure what to feed ..just stick to this one is good enough.Of coz if your furkids have any health problems, do consult your vet first.Beside Life extension Dog Mix, I give JoJo glucosamine once a while, with flaxseed oil/fish oil sometimes as well to help maintain shiny and smooth coat. Some may want to buy organic flaxseed powder from stores to add into dogâs food.

SOMETIMES in June the Sunday Times reported a certain retired man named Tan Tuan Khoon, aged 62, who traps cats as a past time and sends them to the AVA to be put down. Naturally, he had become a most hated figure for all the animal welfare groups and animal lovers in Singapore. Tan is responsible for the deaths of more than 300 stray cats, as he lost count after 300.
What is more shocking than the fact that he enjoys having cats killed in a systematic manner is the kind of rhetoric that he uses to justify his evil deeds. He says that âtrapping and putting down cats is actually the humane thing to do because stray cats generally have a shorter lifespan due to the hazards they face on the streets.â That is no different from saying that the weak, the sick and the disadvantaged all deserve to die because they have a lower chance of survival than ordinary people. Stinks of Fascism, doesnât it? It is exactly this line of thinking that Hitler used to justify his genocide of the Jews, or what the Japanese Imperial Army used to brainwash their troops to justify the mass murders of Chinese civilians during WW2. Tan also says that he is âhelping stray cats to end their sufferingâ. So when he becomes sick and helpless in the future, I guess he also wonât mind other people coming along and merrily put an end to his suffering?
Furthermore, it is so hypocritical for Tan to tell others he is being humane to cats when the truth is that he harbours a strong hatred towards cats for âdefecating in his garden and drivewayâ, âcats having kittens in the space between his roof and ceiling, causing the plywood ceiling boards to give wayâ, and âalso cats who chased his pet rabbit and stole his foodâ in the past. Just because a few cats offended him, he wants all the stray cats in Singapore to die for it? How foolish and dangerous is this manâs anger! Does he not fear the heavy negative karma that he had accumulated thus far? His lifespan has been shortened and when the time comes for him to die, all those cats that Tan killed would come back to torment him, and to demand their lives back. I foresee a painful death and a woeful destination for him.
The Dhammapada says, âHatred cannot be conquered with hatred, but only with Metta (loving-kindness) can hatred be conquered.âAll beings want to be treated with kindness, and none likes to be scolded, beaten or even killed. If a person cultivates Metta towards all beings, he or she will be respected by even fierce beasts like tigers and crocodiles. What more for cats and dogs?
Therefore my advice to Mr Tan is give up your cruelty towards cats right away. Lay down the butcherâs knife and repent while you still can. Otherwise after you breathe your last, nobody can save you when your stand before King Yama in the halls of hell, with all the cats that you killed on one side demanding that for you to be punished for your sins. è¦æµ·æ è¾¹, å头æ¯å²¸! Take heed, before it is too late.
Last thing comes into my mind, isnât this considered a crime too for killing a life?We read about motorists are responsible for knocking down animals. How about this Mr Tan who deliberately set traps to end the innocent lives of these cats?
Never mind if he doesnât pay for what he has done , he will pay for it when he dies.

No one knows exactly why grapes, raisins and dogs are such a lethal combination. Indeed, these foods are not harmful to every dog in every situation; but for some unlucky dogs, these foods can cause acute kidney failure, which may lead to their eventual death.
In the article, Raisins and Grapes Can Be Harmful to Dogs, Dr Laurinda Morris DVM, an Danville,Ohio vet, recounts a tale of a patient who lost her male Labrador mix after eating half a canister of raisins. After Dr Laurinda struggled to treat the dog , he had to be euthanized due to acute renal failure, caused by consuming such a large quantity of raisins.
Dangerous foods for dogs, like grapes or raisins are often given innocently as treats, without their owners being aware of the risks. Whilst many dog owners these days are better informed about the potential dangers of feeding chocolate to their pets (Theobromine found in coco beans is toxic to dogs, cats and horses), many do not realize the problems that a few grapes or raisins may cause. Linda Bonney of bestanimalloves.com, states in her article,Your Pet Versus Raisins and Grapes (09/20/07), âMany people I know give their dogs grapes and raisins as treats, including our ex-handlers.â
Why Raisins and Grapes are Toxic Foods to Dogs
Grape or raisin toxicity can cause acute kidney failure. Dogs are unable to pass urine, which means their systems cannot filter the toxins from their bodies.
However, what is puzzling is that some dogs are affected, whilst others do not experience any problems. In 140 such cases handled by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, one third of the dogs developed toxic poisoning from eating grapes or raisins; of which 7 died.

from New York Times
Breeds like pugs, shitzus with pushed-in nose may be susceptible to the dog flu because of their short, bent respiratory tracts.
There is a new flu virus going around. It initially looked quite lethal, and caused panic. Now it is clear that it has killed relatively few victims â and many of those have underlying conditions. It is particularly dangerous to be the possessor of a pushed-in nose â that is, to be a Pekingese, a pug or a Shi-Tzu.
Â
It is the H3N8 dog flu. The virus, scientists believe, jumped from horses to dogs at least five years ago, but it has never infected a human.
Last week, the United States Department of Agriculture announced that it had approved the first vaccine for it.
While fears of a flu pandemic among humans have shifted from the lethal H5N1 avian flu to the relatively mild H1N1 swine flu, the H3N8 canine flu has been a quiet undercurrent in the United States, rarely discussed except among veterinarians and dog owners in the few areas where it has struck hard: Florida, New York Cityâs northern suburbs, Philadelphia and Denver.
In line with the virologistsâ adage that the only predictable thing about flu viruses is that they are unpredictable, the dog flu has baffled those following it.
âI donât think we know what this virus is going to do yet,â said one of its discoverers, Dr. Cynda Crawford of the University of Florida veterinary school.
When Dr. Crawford began studying it in January 2004, it had come to her notice as a mysterious cough and pneumonia that killed a third of the greyhounds at a Florida dog track. By the next year, she had found it in seven states and had shown that it could be passed by dogs who just rubbed noses on the street or shared a water dish, and that humans could carry it on their clothes. There was a brief flurry of fear that it would kill 1 percent to 10 percent of the countryâs 70 million dogs.
It has proved about as deadly as Dr. Crawford predicted. She estimates that by itself, it kills 5 percent of the dogs that catch it. Add the deaths at shelters that eliminate the virus by killing all their dogs and disinfecting their cages, and the total mortality rate is 8 percent.
(By contrast, the mortality rate of the 1918 Spanish flu in humans was about 2 percent.)
But it has not spread nearly as vigorously as she expected. It has now been found in 30 states, but almost exclusively in settings where dogs live closely together: shelters, pet stores, kennels and dog schools. Because the owners of these establishments have learned to turn away sick dogs just as school principals facing swine flu send home sick children, the diseaseâs progress has been slowed.
âProbably over 10,000 dogs have been infected,â Dr. Crawford said, âbut I canât say whether itâs 20,000 or 30,000. In a population of 70 million, thatâs a drop in the bucket.â
Dr. Edward J. Dubovi of the veterinary school at Cornell University, another discoverer of the virus, said it is âprobably not as well adapted to dogs as it could be.â It took five mutations to let it jump to dogs from horses, where it had circulated for 40 years.
Another mutation or two âcould make it a very serious issue,â he said, but at the moment, âit takes a certain density of dogs to keep it going.â
Some veterinarians have found that the dogs that tend to die from it are the âbrachycephalicsâ â dogs with short snub noses.
Just as obesity has proved dangerous to human flu victims because of the weight on their chests, being bred to have a short, bent respiratory tract is dangerous for dogs.
âIt really puts a strain on their ability to breathe,â Dr. Crawford said. âThey canât move air in and out of their lungs.â

My 2 dogs, Hofy and Fifi, were put up for adoption via this website in late April. (The link can be found here: http://singapore.gumtree.sg/c-Community-peâ¦QAdIdZ123287306 ). Sometime in mid May, they were eventually taken away by their new owners, one young girl and one young man by the names of XUELI and RAY.
2 weeks later, I paid a surprise visit to their flat only to find that my dogs were both not there. I questioned the people who took my dogs; they claimed they had given my dogs away, but refused to reveal to whom nor their contact details. Subsequently, they contacted my wife and gave her an address, saying that was where my dogs were; the address turned out to be fake. When we confronted them about it, they said the dogs were taken away to some new place. This happened on 3 separate occasions over a few weeks. Each time they would give us an address, but every time we went, the addresses were either fake or our dogs werenât there.
Since then, my wife and I have been desperately contacting these people, pleading with them to tell us what had happened to our dogs, to no avail. They responded with vulgarities instead. We offered them money, but they turned us down angrily, claiming they felt insulted. However, the very next day, one of them contacted my wife asking for $ 250, instructing her to go alone to their flat to hand over the money, after which he would then agree to help us. My wife obviously did not believe him, but instead said she would give him the money as soon as he tells us the truth about our dogs. He responded with vulgarities again and told her to forget about ever finding our dogs. They have not responded to all our calls or messages eversince. What puzzles us, as much as it distresses us, is what could they have possibly done to our dogs, and why canât they simply tell us the truth?
It has been almost 2 months now, and I fear our chances of getting our dogs back lessens with each passing day.
We are hereby offering a $ 3000 cash reward to anyone who can provide information regarding the fate of Hofy and Fifi.
We may be contacted at 98638946 (Kenny) / 81897013 (Vivien) / 96775009 (Michelle)
